The last two weeks we have been in a message series called 'Old School Guys'. This message has focused on some guys from the Old Testament that God used to do incredible stuff. We've looked at Abraham and last night we looked at David. These guys did some pretty cool stuff...(like killing a 9 foot giant with just a slingshot!) When we study these old school guys we see the word 'righteous' come up a lot. And if you're like me, that word can sound kind of churchy, and hard to understand. Below is an excerpt from the One Minute Bible, that i thought was really challenging.
"A 'righteous person' is someone who has an intimate relationship with God and constantly lives to please Him and do what is right. In the Old Testament a "righteous" person is someone who "fears" God and lives his life by keeping the commandments. In the New Testament, Jesus goes beyond the definition of doing right and focuses more on being right. He places priority on a person's heart(being) rather than his behavior(doing). A person with a good heart will automatically do what's right. How's your heart today?"
